Tour of Hadrians Wall

A circular tour of Hadrians wall from Haltwhistle passing, Greenhead Roman Army Museum, Aesica Fort, Milecastle 42, Steel Rigg and Vindolanda. 

The Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda can be visited with a combined ticket and along with their displays and artifacts give a great insight into life on the Roman frontier in Britain. The existing walls of Milecastle 42 and the stunning views over Steel Rigg to Crag Lough and Sycamore Gap are not to be missed. Approximately 20 miles.

Birdoswald to Lanercost

Following the Hadrian Cycleway ( Sustrans route 72) West out of Haltwhistle, this ride passes Birdoswald Roman Fort, the remains of the wall, turrets and Milecastle, along with an earlier Roman Signal station before Roman signal station before reaching Lanercost Priary. The Priory was a stopover for Edward I on his way to campaign against the Scots. The Priory was a stopover for Edward I an his way to campaign against the Scots. It saw several raids during the border wars including  by Edward and Robert  Bruce during its tubulent History. Return the same way of via Nawarth Castle and Lambley Viaduct for a circular ride. Approximately 23 or 30 miles.

Lambley Viaduct

Follow a disused railway to Lambley Viaduct an impressive 30m high railway bridge crossing the river South Tyne. Return via the picturesque Featherstone Castle and bridge. Approximately 12 miles.
